Editage accepts manuscripts in the following file formats:

  1. Microsoft Word (.doc)
  2. Acrobat Reader (.pdf)
  3. MS Excel (.xls) and MS PowerPoint (.ppt)
  4. LaTeX and TeX (.tex)
  5. Image files (.jpeg, .tiff, .gif, etc.)
  6. Rich text format (.rtf)
  7. Text files (.txt)

1. Microsoft Word (.doc) and Rich text format (.rtf)

The manuscript is edited using the "Track Changes" feature and delivered in the "Final Showing Markup" view.

  1. Click here to view a sample of a manuscript edited with "Track Changes."
  2. Click here to learn more about the Track Changes feature in MS Word.

2. Acrobat Reader file (.pdf)

The manuscript is edited on paper, scanned, and delivered as a PDF file.

  1. Click here to view a sample of a manuscript submitted as a PDF, edited on paper.
  2. Click here to view the symbols commonly used by our editors when editing PDF files.

If you feel that conversion from the LaTex format could potentially result in significant information loss, you can submit your manuscript in the PDF format. Alternatively if you perceive that information loss due to conversion wil not be significant, you can submit your manuscript in the Latex format as well.

3. MS Excel (.xls) and MS PowerPoint (.ppt)
Currently, there are no additional charges for formatting such files. Please bear in mind that since changes made in these file formats cannot be tracked, you will simply receive an updated version of the original file. All major edits will be highlighted through notes.

4. LaTex and TeX (.tex)

LaTeX and TeX files are first converted into MS Word, and the manuscript is then edited using the "Track Changes" feature. Currently, editing for LaTex and TeX files is offered as a special service at no extra cost. Please consider the following points while submitting manuscripts in TeX and LaTeX formats:

  1. Submit a PDF or DIV version of the manuscript (for reference) along with the LaTeX or TeX file.
  2. You will be intimated prior to the conversion of the LaTeX or TeX file into MS Word.
  3. After receiving your confirmation, the manuscript will be edited using the Track Changes feature.
  4. The edited manuscript will be delivered in the MS Word format.

Note

  • At times, it might be difficult to convert LaTeX and TeX formats into MS Word without errors; in such cases, we cannot edit the unconverted file. However, we can edit the manuscript on hard copy if you provide us with a PDF version.
  • Conversion of LaTeX and TeX formats to MS Word could, at times, result in loss of information.
  • Due to certain technical difficulties in MS Word arising from a large number of objects (equations), some equations may appear as blank boxes. Please bear this in mind prior to submission. For more details on why boxes appear, visit the MathType website.

5. Image files (.jpeg, .gif, .tiff, etc.)

Such files are edited on paper using common editing symbols. You will receive a scanned version of the final edited copy.

  1. Click here to view a sample of an edited image file.
  2. Click here to view the symbols commonly used by our editors when editing image files.

6. Text files (.txt)

Text files are converted into MS Word (.doc) files. The manuscript is then edited using the "Track Changes" feature of MS Word and delivered in the "Final Showing Markup" view.

Note: If your file size is very large, please submit it in a compressed format such as ZIP or TAR (ZIP format is preferable). For more details on WinZip, visit www.winzip.com.
