Prof. Zabta Khan Shinwari is the Secretary-General of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences and Chair of the Biotechnology Department of the Quaid-i-Azam University in Islamabad, Pakistan. Following a hard-earned graduation degree from Pakistan, Prof. Shinwari went on to obtain a PhD and multiple postdoctoral fellowships in Japan. Over the years, he built a reputation as a passionate bioethicist who believes in the potential of scientific discovery to benefit humanity. His work in bioethics led to his being awarded the 2015 UNESCO Avicenna Prize for Ethics in Science. He has authored over 300 scientific publications, including journal articles, conference proceedings, books, and book chapters.
