Ethics in publishing
Ethical publication practices are integral to the advancement of honest scientific research, and Editage is committed to this cause. Through this section of our website and during the course of service delivery, we educate clients about ethical concerns surrounding authorship (ghost writing, plagiarism, etc.) and help them adopt good publication practices.
As an organization offering scientific editing and publication support services, we are keenly aware of our role in the publication cycle. To help ensure that all manuscripts edited and assessed by us fulfill ethical considerations, we adopt a three-step approach:
Offer authors recommendations on publication ethics, written in easy-to-understand language:
The major guidelines on good publication policies are written in English. Often, ESL (English as a second language) authors find these difficult to follow. That’s why we offer authors easy-to-understand recommendations on ethical publication practices. We hope that this will help ESL authors gain a better understanding of publishing ethics and follow good publication practices.
Train editors and publication support experts on publication ethics:
During our intensive ISO 9001:2008-certified training program, editors and publication support experts are introduced to issues such as plagiarism, ghost writing, and conflict of interest. They are required to understand ethical publication practices and follow ICMJE, GPP2, and other applicable guidelines.
Guide authors during service delivery:
Wherever possible during service delivery, we emphasize the need for authors to adhere to journal instructions, seek ethical approvals, reveal any conflict of interest, or include an acknowledgment indicating editing/reviewing support.
