About PuMabeta

What does PuMa do?
PuMa started by allowing you to search for similar articles based on your title, abstract, or keywords. Our new feature allows you to search for journals relevant to your paper as well. Simply enter your abstract, title, or keywords and get a list of relevant journals. You can also filter the results according to several common journal features.

  • PuMa identifies articles similar to your article on the basis of the keywords/title/abstract that you enter into the search box. It orders the results by matching your keywords/title/abstract against 250,000 existing articles in biomedicine. It also provides the name of the journal that the article is published in and a link to the article in Pubmed.
  • PuMa lets you search for journals that are relevant for your article. Once you enter your keywords/title/abstract, PuMa will display a list of journals that you may consider submitting to. You can filter the results based on the desired impact factor, publication frequency, target audience, or publication country of the journal you’d like to submit to.

How does PuMa find relevant articles?
PuMa uses a sophisticated search engine to index data in a special way that allows us to find relevant articles in PubMed by executing the tf-idf vector space model algorithm. This helps us calculate their relevancy. Articles fetched are then ordered so that the most relevant articles rise to the top.

How often is PuMa updated?
New articles are indexed and the results are updated whenever PubMed releases new data files.

What about the confidentiality of my abstract/title?
PuMa does not store any abstract/manuscript title that you’ve entered for search. We use it to retrieve the results only.

What’s next in PuMa?

  • PuMa has indexed more than 250,000 articles so far. We plan on expanding our search database to even more articles to provide you better results.
  • Presently, PuMa only indexes biomedical articles. We intend to index papers from other subject areas such as physics and math in the near future.
