Q: Could you guide me on the size of the figure file for submitting to Frontiers in Computational Neuroscience?

Detailed Question -

As mentioned in the previous question, I am in the process of submitting a brief research report to the journal Frontiers in Computational Neuroscience. The instruction for uploading figures says: Drag and drop your figures [TIF/TIFF, JPG; 300 DPI; 8.5 to 20cm width]

Does it mean that the TIF or JPG file size should be: 20cm (width) * 8cm (length)? If it does, I would like to ask how to know the width * length pixel.

Answer:

Yes, we responded to your previous query a while ago, but you may have posted this query before we posted that response. However, that’s fine. :-)

Also, you seem quite anxious or eager to get your submission perfect. That is understandable, as some journals tend to reject the first submission only because authors haven’t followed the guidelines. :-/ However, from what we know, Frontiers is a fairly ‘permissive’ publisher – they should be okay with a few misses here and there, although you should aim to get it right as far as possible.

So, as we said in the previous response too, this would be an extremely specific query. Also, this is not mentioned in the author guidelines, but is a part of the submission instructions. As this forum is not registered on Frontiers, it may be challenging for us to guide you with this detail. From what we understand though, the width can be between 8.5cm and 20 cm, but there is no mention of the length. Perhaps only the width is mentioned as that can become an issue when viewing on mobiles versus viewing on desktops/laptops. Length is perhaps not an issue because the article can be scrolled.

However, again, we would suggest writing to the journal to check with them. You may contact them through the details on this page. In case you have multiple such queries, you can put them in one sheet and send it together, so that they can respond to all queries together. In addition, you may refer to their Help Center for Submission on this page. Finally, you may also utilize our own Journal Submission service for this purpose.

Hope that helps. And all the best again!!
