Q: How can I find out if a journal is included in Journal Citation Reports?

Detailed Question -

First of all, I would like to thank you for the information you are providing to beginner researchers like me. It helps us a lot. I have an article to be published in a journal listed in the master list of journals indexed in Thomson Reuters. I have already paid the publication fee. Somebody told me that the journals listed in the "Master Journal List - Clarivate Analytics" are not the journals indexed in Thomson Reuters but instead applicants for indexing, and that there is another official list of journals indexed in Thomson Reuters." On that Master Journal Lists-Clarivate Analytics, I found the name of the journal where my article is to be published. Additionally, I saw a list of searchable databases. When I clicked on the subject area that my article belongs to, the name of the journal appeared. Is there other way to know whether a journal is indexed in Thomson Reuters? Is my colleague correct? Is there an official list of journals indexed in Thomson and Reuters other than those in Clarivate Analytics? Thank you very much. Sincrely, Dr.Gabby

Answer:

The Master Journal List - Clarivate Analytics is part of the Thomson Reuters website and it is mentioned on the webpage that "The Master Journal List includes all journal titles covered in Web of Science." It is not mentioned anywhere that these journals are the ones applying for indexing. However, if you want to be doubly sure, you can also check the list of journals in the 2016 release of the Journal Citation Reports (JCR). This is the official list of journals released by Thomson Reuters in 2016.

Answer:

Madam  I appreciate your reply and discussion about different Journals. Research has impact on the community. Research solve the problems which are facing to different community in the world. The scientist conduct research and then publish in different journals of the world while those journal charge fee on these publications. The developed countries pay the charges easily while under developing countries purchasing power are less than the developed countries and they can not afford these charges such like Pakistan. The report of the scientist go to data base and where any one want to download the data they charge and earn the money for their country while again the developing countries community can not get benefits from their own research. They again face problems due to less purchasing power to download the data from the net. So the developed countries get benefits on every angle while the developing poor countries can not get benefits from their own research which they published in Thomson router Journals which are the top level journal in the world. Everyone try for dollars and deceive the others and particularly the poor peoples. On the other side  those journal take more time in publishing the paper which lose value on time basis. So according to my view those journals are good for developing countries which easily without charges in less time publish the paper because for which purpose the research was conducted to solve the problem in time. The major impact of the paper is that to solve the problems for which purpose the research was conducted by researcher. If they not solve the problems of the community for which purpose the research was conducted then how we say that this paper has great impact. So the impact is calculated  by citation which give high impact to the journal while in real sense on the actual field, this paper has no impact for which purpose the research was conducted. So according to my view real impact is calculated from the field where through research the problems are solve not from the citation while citation is only a fraud for the developing world community.

Answer:

On each journal home page for e.g in Elseveir, they have a tab at the bottom of the page which is abstracting/indexing. There you can see the indexing of the journal.

Similarly in springer and other journal you can see their indexing under the heading about the journal.

Furthermore, Thomson and reuters have their search engine where you when type the journal name it will show its indexing.

I hope this helps.
