Q: How long does it take for the status "Initial assessment of submissions" to change?
The status of my paper has been “Initial assessment of submissions” for a week. From the note on the journal website, the manuscripts are sometimes rejected before handing to Editor, depending on the contents. The format of my paper is Communication. In general, how long does it take for this status “Initial assessment of submissions”?
Generally, communication articles are short articles that are processed faster than other article types. Some articles have this type of initial screening where the paper is assessed by one or more Screening Editors before it is handed out to an Associate Editor. Ideally, this should not take more than a few weeks. However, the time can vary depending on the journal, the contents of the article, and the number of submissions.
