Q: If a case group is overlapped in two papers, is it a duplicate publication?

Detailed Question -

One of my accepted papers reported a significant difference by simply comparing some parameter data in the control group (20 cases) and case group A (20 cases). In the paper currently under submission, I compare the same case group A (20 cases) and other case group B (20 cases), which are clinically difficult to distinguish, and analyze the diagnostic effect by ROC analysis. The case group A overlaps with the previous paper, so would it be considered a duplicate publication?

Dear Author,

Thank you for writing to us. As long as the research question is different, it is acceptable to publish studies that have similar or overlapping study groups.
