In a Wiley journal, under the status it shows "Re: not assigned". What does this signify? It's been like this for quite some time, almost 3 weeks

Answer:

In Wiley, when you submit a paper, it undergoes an initial check by the Managing Editor to ensure adherence to the submission checklist. Thereafter, it is allocated to an Action Editor (Editor or Associate Editor). The Action Editor will usually invite two or three reviewers to comment on the article and make a recommendation about its suitability for publication. Each reviewer is normally allowed 28 days to submit their report but may occasionally be allowed longer. When the reviewers’ comments have been received, the Action Editor will make a decision, taking into account their recommendations, and you will be notified of the decision by e-mail. Currently, the status of your paper—Re: not assigned—indicates that a review stage is yet to be assigned or the reviewers are yet to respond to the Action Editor’s request for reviewing your manuscript.

We suggest that you wait for a week longer. If there is no status update after that, you can drop in a polite inquiry to the editor requesting an update on the status of your submission.

We hope this addresses your concern. We hope you receive a positive response.
