Q: Is it acceptable to submit a full conference paper to a journal for publication?

Detailed Question -

For a conference I attended, full papers were required for final registration. This paper has now been published in the conference proceedings, but I would like to publish it in a journal. Is it ok to do this?

1 Answer to this question
Answer:

Since your manuscript was published in the conference proceedings, it will be available in the public domain. This means readers can access and read it. Usually, it will be considered unethical to publish this paper in a journal and most journals will not accept it as the data is already published. Please refer to ICMJE guidelines for duplicate publication. You can consider publishing it if you add a considerable amount of new data and extend the findings of the previous paper. The revised manuscript should have new findings that add to the hypothesis and conclusion of the previous paper. Ideally, at least 30-50% of new data will need to be added to make it suitable for publication in a journal.
