Editage announces grants for Asian editors to attend ISMTE's North American and European conferences

(June 19, 2017; Philadelphia, U.S.) Editage announced travel grants for journal editors from East Asia to attend the 10th Annual North American and European conferences of the International Society of Managing and Technical Editors (ISMTE). ISMTE’s 10th Annual North American Conference is being conducted on August 10-11, 2017 in Denver, Colorado, and the 10th Annual European Conference is to be held on November 9-10, 2017 in London, UK. After the huge success of ISMTE’s 2017 Asian-Pacific Conference in Beijing, Editage wants to continue to support ISMTE in its mission to facilitate a continued open dialogue between editorial offices in the East and the West. Editage Travel grants will be reserved for journal editors from East Asia (ChinaJapanSouth KoreaTaiwanNorth Korea, Mongolia, Hong Kong, and Macau)

The travel grants involve awards of up to $1,700 towards travel/accommodation for the North American conference and up to $1,300 towards travel/accommodation for the European conference. In addition, ISMTE will be providing the winners with complimentary registration for the conference of their choice and a mention and interview that will be published in Editorial Office News (EON), the official publication of the ISMTE. Winners will also be assigned a mentor from Editage to help them get the most out of the conference.

Michael Willis, President of ISMTE, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative by stating, “We are delighted to be working with Editage in launching their Travel Grants. These will help journal editors and managing editors from Asia contribute to the dialogue at our North American and European conferences. Editage’s proximity to authors and journals in Asia makes their support valuable to ISMTE, as was evident through their support during our Beijing conference.” Explaining the reason behind these travel grants, Abhishek Goel, Co-founder of Editage, Cactus Communications, stated, “In an age where the world is shrinking, physical distance should be the last reason for Asian editors not to be able to contribute to and benefit from discussions with their international peers. We felt that travel grants were the perfect way to support ISMTE in bringing about collaboration between global editorial offices and bridging the East and West.”

Applicants will be required to submit an essay in English. The submission deadline for entries for the ISMTE 2017 North American Conference is Monday, July 3, 2017. The submission deadline for entries for the 2017 European Conference is Monday, August 14, 2017. Editage will work with the winners to provide the travel funding in the most convenient way.
