Q: What does "Pending editor assignment" status mean?

Detailed Question -

I submitted an article to one of Wiley's journals. One week later, the status changed from "undergoing initial checking", to "pending editor assignment". For the first status the Edt, Adm. Was the same person, for the second status a new Adm. was added to the previous person. What does this mean?

Answer:

Thank you for your question. This status simply means that your paper is yet to be assigned to an editor. Most journals have their own criteria for selecting an editor for a particular paper and the delay could be due to editor unavailability. If the status does not change, you could write to the journal editor and enquire about the latest update regarding your manuscript. We wish you all the best with our submission.
