Q: Reuse of figures

Detailed Question -

There is a figure which was used in the published paper. I think I cannot reuse it as is, but can I remake and reuse its original picture that was the basis of the figure? Specifically, the published figure is the one which includes a hand with other pictures and arrows are embedded. Then, I want to reuse only the hand without other pictures and arrows. Is that acceptable?

Answer:

Thank you for writing to us. A simple answer to your question would be a “yes.” Precisely, you will have to obtain a written permission from the copyright holder, which in general is the journal in which the relevant paper has been published. If you search the official website of the relevant journal, they provide the information regarding the process to obtain written permission for reproducing the material they have published. This written permission is to be included in the material you submit to the journal where you intend to publish your manuscript; they need to be assured that the material they may publish in the future does not infringe copyrights held by others.
