Q: What does the status of my article mean - awaiting reviewer assignment?

Detailed Question -

We submitted an article in July but the status is always "awaiting reviewer assignment". What does this mean?

Answer:

Thank you for your question. The entire peer review process usually takes between 2 and 6 months. This may, however, vary across journals. Due to the situation necessitated by COVID-19, journal workflows and decision-making may have been impacted to some extent.

Based on the information you have provided, 6 months have passed and no peer reviewer has been assigned to review the file. This can mean that the Editor in Chief is deliberating over who should review your file. We would recommend waiting for at least 2-3 more weeks. If the status still does not change, you can send an email to the Editor-in-chief asking for an update.
