Q: What should I do if I detect an error in the order of references in my published article?
I just noticed that I made a mistake in the order of references and their citation in the text of my article, which has already been published for a month. What should I do?
An error in the sequence of references or citations is a minor error as it does not impact the scientific information in the article. So, that way, it is not a ‘deal-breaker’. However, it does impact the credit due to the correct author or source. So, you could write to the journal requesting them to make the change. They will weigh in on the need to do so. If they decide to make the change, they will do so through a corrigendum in a future issue.
