Q: Why has the status changed from ‘waiting for recommendation’ to ‘waiting for referee selection’?

I submitted my manuscript months ago, and it went through all the phases of referrer selection, referee decisions etc, and had been on ‘waiting for recommendation’ for over a month. Now it’s changed back to ‘waiting for referee selection’. Any insight into why this has gone back to this stage from what should be the final stage?

A possible reason for this may be that the original reviewers selected either are not available to review/declined to review the manuscript or the journal editor was not satisfied with the reviewers’ comments. Therefore, the journal has now resent the files for review.
