Q: "With Editor" to "Decision in Process" after 5 weeks

Detailed Question -

Hello. I submitted my paper to an Elsevier journal 5 weeks ago. 2 Weeks after getting my manuscript number. I had e-mailed the journal manager enquiring about the "with editor " status. They promised that the review process will be expedited as it's unusual for a manuscript to have a "with editor" status for two weeks. After 5 weeks it's now decision in process. Will it mean a desk reject?

Answer:

Generally, it takes 1-2 weeks for the editorial assessment to be completed. During this stage, the manuscript is evaluated for ethical considerations and scope match with the readership of the journal. The status “with editor” for a long duration, such as 5 weeks is certainly unusual. By this time we would expect the status to be “reviewers invited” or “review in progress”. However, let’s not presume a negative outcome like “desk rejection” without a decision from the journal! We know how frustrating it can be to wait so long for a decision; but in this case it’s best to be patient and hope for the better.

We wish you all the best and hope you get a favourable response from the journal.

Answer:
