The Institute for Scientific Information (ISI), the knowledge institute of the Web of Science<\/a><\/span><\/span> group, recently released its first Annual G20 Scorecard<\/a><\/span><\/span>. The report analyzes the performance of the G20 countries across several research parameters. However, the objective of the report is not to rank the countries, but more to provide insights and directions for the future.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The G20 members include 19 countries and the EU. This international group comprises about two-thirds of the world\u2019s population and produces more than three-fourths of the world\u2019s GDP. Research-wise, the G20 is significant as it employs close to 90% of the world\u2019s researchers, publishes about 70% of the world\u2019s research papers, and most importantly, spends over 90% of global GDP on research.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
