The workshops were conducted by experienced editor, medical writer, publications consultant, and trainer&#8211;Dr. Elizabeth Wager.\u00a0 These workshops were attended by over 300 researchers and journal editors. This was part of the workshop series in Korea held at Yonsei University. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>This workshop was divided into two parts. In the first part, Dr. Wager advised researchers on publication planning. She took them through different parts of a research manuscript and discussed common writing mistakes. In the second part, Dr. Wager focused on the peer review process, different peer review systems, understanding journal expectations and factors to consider when identifying a journal.<\/p>\n<p>At this workshop, Dr. Wager emphasized the importance of keeping the reader in mind. She said that it was important to consider the following:<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 What will interest them?<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 \u00a0What do they know already?<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0 \u00a0 What do you need to explain?<\/p>\n<p>She also explained that the first readers are always the journal editor and the peer reviewer. Dr. Wager said that knowing the key message was important and would help them evaluate how big their message is; accordingly they can identify if they are writing for a global audience, a regional audience, or a local audience.<\/p>\n<p>Next, Dr. Wager quoted Rudyard Kipling to discuss the elements of the paper.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI keep six honest serving-men.<\/p>\n<p>(They taught me all I knew.)<\/p>\n<p>Their names are <strong><span style=\"color: #0000cd;\">What<\/span><\/strong> and <strong><span style=\"color: #0000cd;\">Why<\/span><\/strong> and <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">When<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And <span style=\"color: #0000cd;\"><strong>How<\/strong><\/span> and <strong><span style=\"color: #0000cd;\">Where<\/span><\/strong> and <strong><span style=\"color: #0000cd;\">Who<\/span><\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>-Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936)<\/p>\n<p>She explained that the different parts of the paper should answer these questions.<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"media-element file-default\" style=\"height: 188px; width: 250px; float: right;\" title=\"-\" src=\"http:\/\/insights.cactusglobal.com\/sites\/default\/files\/P1010115.jpg\" alt=\"-\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Authors\u2014<span style=\"color: #0000cd;\"><strong>Who<\/strong><\/span> did this work?<\/p>\n<p>Title\u2014<strong><span style=\"color: #0000cd;\">Why<\/span><\/strong> should I read it?<\/p>\n<p>Introduction\u2014<strong><span style=\"color: #0000cd;\">Why<\/span><\/strong> did you do it?<\/p>\n<p>Methods\u2014<span style=\"color: #0000cd;\"><strong>How <\/strong><\/span>did you do it?<\/p>\n<p>Results\u2014<strong><span style=\"color: #0000cd;\">What<\/span><\/strong> did you find?<\/p>\n<p>Discussion\u2014<strong><span style=\"color: #0000cd;\">What<\/span><\/strong> does it mean?<\/p>\n<p>Conclusion\u2014<strong><span style=\"color: #0000cd;\">What<\/span><\/strong> should I do now?<\/p>\n<p>The session covered all this and more and it was appreciated by all the participants!<\/p>\n<p><em>See our upcoming workshops and webinars <a href=\"http:\/\/www.editage.com\/insights\/upcoming-events\">here<\/a>.
