Elledge<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Evelyn_M._Witkin\">Evelyn M. Witkin<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">\u2014\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">\u201cFor discoveries concerning the DNA-damage response, a fundamental mechanism that protects the genomes of all living organisms.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:14px;\"><strong>The Lasker-DeBakey Clinical Medical Research Award<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:14px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cancerresearch.org\/our-strategy-impact\/people-behind-the-progress\/scientists\/james-allison\">James P. Allison<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">\u2014<\/span><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">\u00a0&#8220;For the discovery and development of a monoclonal antibody therapy that unleashes the immune system to combat cancer.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:14px;\"><strong>The Lasker-Bloomberg Public Service Award<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:14px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.doctorswithoutborders.org\/\" title=\"More articles about Doctors Without Borders\">Doctors Without Borders<\/a>\u00a0(M\u00e9decins Sans Fronti\u00e8res in French)\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">\u2014<\/span><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">\u00a0&#8220;For bold leadership\u00a0in responding to the recent Ebola outbreak in Africa and for sustained and effective frontline responses to health emergencies.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">The winners will be honored by the Albert and Mary Lasker Foundation in a formal ceremony in Manhattan on September 18.
