Since 1991, these prizes honor the most unusual and imaginative achievements \u201cthat make people LAUGH, and then THINK.\u201d The Ig Nobel Prize winners are handed over the prize by Nobel Prize winners in an elaborate ceremony.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The prizes handed out this year are listed below:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>1.\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Reproduction Prize<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The late Ahmed Shafik was honored for \u201cstudying the effects of wearing polyester, cotton, or wool trousers on the sex life of rats, and for conducting similar tests with human males.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Economics Prize<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For \u201cassessing the perceived personalities of rocks, from a sales and marketing perspective,\u201d Mark Avis, Sarah Forbes, and Shelagh Ferguson were awarded this prize.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>3.\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Physics Prize<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">G\u00e1bor Horv\u00e1th, Mikl\u00f3s Blah\u00f3, Gy\u00f6rgy Kriska, Ram\u00f3n Heged\u00fcs, Bal\u00e1zs Gerics, R\u00f3bert Farkas, Susanne \u00c5kesson, P\u00e9ter Malik, and Hansruedi Wildermuth were recognized\u00a0for \u201cdiscovering why white-haired horses are the most horsefly-proof horses, and for discovering why dragonflies are fatally attracted to black tombstones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>4.\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Chemistry Prize<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Volkswagen received the prize for \u201csolving the problem of excessive automobile pollution emissions by automatically, electromechanically producing fewer emissions whenever the cars are being tested.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>5.\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Medicine Prize<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIf you have an itch on the left side of your body, you can relieve it by looking into a mirror and scratching the right side of your body (and vice versa).\u201d This research by Christoph Helmchen, Carina Palzer, Thomas M\u00fcnte, Silke Anders, and Andreas Sprenger was awarded the Ig Nobel Prize.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>6.\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Psychology Prize<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The research conducted by Evelyne Debey, Maarten De Schryver, Gordon Logan, Kristina Suchotzki, and Bruno Verschuere was awarded the prize \u201cfor asking a thousand liars how often they lie, and for deciding whether to believe those answers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>7.\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Peace Prize<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Gordon Pennycook, James Allan Cheyne, Nathaniel Barr, Derek Koehler, and Jonathan Fugelsang were honored for their scholarly study called &#8220;On the Reception and Detection of Pseudo-Profound Bullshit&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>8.\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Biology Prize<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Charles Foster and Thomas Thwaites received the award jointly, \u201cfor living in the wild as, at different times, a badger, an otter, a deer, a fox, and a bird;\u201d and \u201cfor creating prosthetic extensions of his limbs that allowed him to move in the manner of, and spend time roaming hills in the company of, goats\u201d respectively.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>9.\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Literature Prize<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Fredrik Sj\u00f6berg\u2019s \u201cthree-volume autobiographical work about the pleasures of collecting flies that are dead, and flies that are not yet dead\u201d was honored with this prize.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>10.\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Perception Prize \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Atsuki Higashiyama and Kohei Adachi received the prize \u201cfor investigating whether things look different when you bend over and view them between your legs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Congratulations to all the winners!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Annals of Improbable Research, a science humor magazine, announced on September 22, the winners of the 2016 Ig Nobel Prizes.
