Addressing peer reviewers\u2019 comments can be quite stressful, particularly when the comments are exhaustive. Here are some do\u2019s and don\u2019ts to help you deal with peer review comments confidently.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Do\u2019s<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Stay calm:<\/strong> It is a peer reviewer&#8217;s job to critically \u00a0assess your research to ensure that it makes a valuable contribution to your field, and they may provide exhaustive comments or suggest a lot of revisions. Receiving a few critical\/negative comments is no reason to panic. Stay calm and assess each comment for the value it adds.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Seek an opinion:<\/strong> Discuss the comments with your coauthors\/colleagues who are familiar with your work. They may be able to share a different perspective on dealing with complex reviewer comments.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Be thorough:<\/strong> Address each comment fully. Do not miss out any points. You could identify \u00a0each point by numbering it and providing corresponding responses to ensure that you don&#8217;t skip any.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Be open to disagreements:<\/strong>\u00a0You do not have to agree to everything the reviewers say. If you feel that a suggestion, observation, or comment is outside the scope of your research, mention this, too.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Be polite:<\/strong> When disagreeing with the reviewers, do so politely but reasonably.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Substantiate \u00a0wherever necessary:<\/strong>\u00a0Provide additional supporting data, including references\/additional data to support your argument.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Respond promptly and clearly:<\/strong> Be prompt with your responses and clearly indicate sections that you have changed based on reviewers\u2019 suggestions.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Don\u2019ts<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Do not be averse to receiving feedback or criticism:<\/strong> Do not argue or refute every comment made \u00a0by the reviewers. Some negative comments might actually be valid and add value to your research.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Do not respond emotionally:<\/strong> Remember that it is about your manuscript and not about you. View negative feedback as constructive, not personal, criticism and address it with a neutral approach.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Avoid sweeping opinion statements:<\/strong>\u00a0Avoid statements such as \u201cwe completely disagree\u201d in your <a href=\"http:\/\/www.editage.com\/insights\/how-to-write-a-great-rebuttal-letter\">rebuttal letter<\/a>. Stick to construction like, \u201cWe agree with the reviewer\u2026but\u2026\u201d.
