Happy reading!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">1.\u00a0<strong>Researcher identification<\/strong>: Is it really possible for researchers to have a single account across all the platforms they use? In <a href=\"http:\/\/scholarlykitchen.sspnet.org\/2015\/07\/29\/a-single-user-account\/\">A Single User\u00a0Account<\/a>, Roger C. Schonfeld discusses the complexity brought in by multiple user identification codes used by researchers and how having one user account for everything could really simplify things for them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">2.\u00a0<strong>Authorship:<\/strong> With increased collaboration, papers with over a thousand authors have become very common. This raises a very valid question: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeshighereducation.co.uk\/news\/mass-authorship-destroying-credibility-papers\">is this proliferation of named authors making academic authorship flippant and meaningless<\/a>?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">3.\u00a0<strong>Science for the public:<\/strong> \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ucsusa.org\/center-science-and-democracy\/promoting-public-access-science\/mediated-access-transparency#.VeBVfPmqqkp\">Barriers between reporters and government scientists are making it harder for science writers to keep the public informed<\/a>,\u201d informs a survey conducted by the Union of Concerned Scientists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">4. <strong>Conference etiquette:<\/strong> Want to tweet? Ask the presenter first! Attendees of the annual meeting of the Ecological Society of America (ESA) were requested to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/news\/conference-tweeting-rule-frustrates-ecologists-1.18207\">gain consent from speakers before tweeting about their presentations<\/a>, which led to heated debates about whether such a request is in favor of free speech using social media. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">5. <strong>Data sharing:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.lse.ac.uk\/impactofsocialsciences\/2015\/07\/03\/data-secrecy-bad-science-or-scientific-misconduct\/\">Is withholding your data a form of scientific misconduct?<\/a> Nicole Janz argues that breaking professional standards in research by practicing data secrecy amounts to misconduct.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">6. <strong>Retraction:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">a. The <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.editage.com\/insights\/springer-retracts-64-papers-from-its-journals-alleging-fake-reviews\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\">recent mass retraction by Springer<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\"> caused a stir in China because nearly all of the 64 papers seem to be authored by Chinese academics. According to a survey conducted by David Resnik, Grace Kissling, and Elizabeth Wager, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/retractionwatch.com\/2015\/08\/03\/at-least-one-third-of-top-science-journals-lack-a-retraction-policy-a-big-improvement\/\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\">more than one third of the world\u2019s top-ranked science journals do not have a retraction policy<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">7. <b>Academic poaching<\/b>: Many universities indulge in \u2018poaching\u2019 star faculty members in an attempt to boost their stature and state economies.
