For instance, you may write that \u2018Author1 and Author2 (2013) used a 0.5% solution of chemical xyz and obtained remarkable results\u2019 and provide all the required details of the source faultlessly formatted<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14px; font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">\u00a0under references,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14px; font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">but fail to notice that the original paper says chemical <em>abc<\/em> (and not <em>xyz<\/em>). Errors of this type are far more serious. Such \u2018attribution\u2019 errors are not only harder to detect and potentially more dangerous but also likely to be perpetuated when somebody else cites your paper as a source of that bit of information.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px; font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">As\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/sss.sagepub.com\/content\/44\/4\/638.full\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">Ole Bj\u00f8rn Rekdal<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">\u00a0points out in his paper titled\u00a0<em>Academic urban legends<\/em>, sloppy or inaccurate citations can lead to urban legends. Rekdal illustrates this with two urban legends, namely that (a) spinach is an exceptionally rich dietary source of iron [whereas in fact, it contains substances that inhibit the absorption of iron] and (b) this claim is the result of an error in placing a decimal point.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family:verdana,geneva,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">Rekdal\u2019s paper also warns researchers that they should refrain from citing sources that they have not examined or consulted themselves: although reference styles may allow to do so by inserting \u2018cited in,\u2019 this is not a practice to be encouraged.
