I had this sneaky trick of pretending to sleep to get out of doing all kinds of challenging ordeals\u00a0a kid faces on a daily basis. An afternoon nap could effortlessly replace such things as doing chores, practicing the piano or merely having to physically\u00a0walk from the couch all the way to bed (how great is it being carried to bed!).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"line-height: 115%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri,sans-serif;\">Now as a full-grown woman, pretending to sleep just feels so\u2026 juvenile.\u00a0I\u2019ve had to step up and actually do the dishes and make my bed. It\u2019s tough being an adult and at times I wonder \u2013 if I pretended to be dead, would it\u00a0get me out of cleaning the bathroom? Worth a try maybe.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"line-height: 115%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri,sans-serif;\">Since starting my PhD, I have found my new \u2018pretending to sleep\u2019 trick \u2013\u00a0which has now become \u2018working on my research.\u2019\u00a0I\u2019m still pretty keen and motivated and actually do take every little opportunity to spend time on my study.\u00a0Perhaps this keenness will fade in time but for now it\u2019s a joy to spend time in my office.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"line-height: 115%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri,sans-serif;\">I fully acknowledge how awesome my husband is and how he is far more domesticated than myself.\u00a0I am a lucky gal to have a house-husband supporting my academic pursuits. Although, if I am 100% honest, I must confess, sometimes I go and \u2018study\u2019 to get out of doing the dishes!!
