This funding is part of Google\u2019s Digital News Initiative in Europe to provide technological innovation and support to journalistic activities.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin:0in 0in 10pt\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:115%\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\">According to the Altmetric\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altmetric.com\/press\/press-releases\/altmetric-and-nature-awarded-funding-from-the-google-digital-news-innovation-fund\/\" style=\"color:blue; text-decoration:underline\">press release<\/a><span class=\"MsoHyperlink\" style=\"color:blue\"><span style=\"text-decoration:underline\">,<\/span><\/span> news articles can influence major policy decisions, lead to the launch of a new field, and even kick start interesting social media conversations. However, the impact of news articles is mostly measured in terms of the number of readers they attract using analytical tools and their \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.altmetric.com\/press\/press-releases\/altmetric-and-nature-awarded-funding-from-the-google-digital-news-innovation-fund\/\" style=\"color:blue; text-decoration:underline\">real world impact<\/a>\u201d gets largely ignored. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin:0in 0in 10pt\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:115%\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\">Altmetric and <i>Nature<\/i> plan to overcome this shortfall by launching a digital tool called \u2018change the world impact tracker,\u2019 which will allows various stakeholders like the readers, the publishers, and the funders to learn more about an article\u2019s impact through article badges and dashboards displayed on the tracker.
