I guess it feels more real than ever before now. It certainly feels more like Master\u2019s than it ever has since I started my doctorate.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I am finding myself putting the teeny pieces together, slowly\u2026 tiny bit by tiny bit, and it\u2019s like a gazillion-piece jigsaw puzzle! I\u2019ll be wasting my time if I rush or if it doesn\u2019t make sense \u2013 so there\u2019s no point in writing rubbish.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

So, to ensure that I don\u2019t write rubbish,\u00a0my sequence\u00a0goes a bit like this:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Look\u00a0at my research questions<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Say a quick silent prayer that I actually finally have approved research questions!<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Scratch my head and rub my temples<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Put the kettle on to boil water for coffee<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Sit down and think really hard; if this was a story that started with \u2018Once upon a time\u2026\u2019 what would catch my attention? Hmmmm\u2026<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  6. Scribble a very rudimentary story line<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  7. Repeat steps 4 to 6<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  8. Decide on an argument to start with, something captivating\u2026 decide on the words, then Google the words to see who said something like that already<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  9. Type\u00a0that sentence<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  10. Reference it. Spend 10 minutes looking for the university reference guide again<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  11. Once I find the university reference guide, go boil water for coffee again<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  12. Add the reference to my reference list<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  13. Decide on the next supporting sentence<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  14. Reference the next sentence<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  15. Put the words of the counter argument into\u00a0Google because I feel it needs to sound balanced<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  16. Make the coffee<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  17. Start reading about the counter argument<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  18. Stumble upon an interesting new word in the text. Decide to look up that<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  19. Start reading a different but related topic<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  20. Check Facebook<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  21. Read my work again and think to myself \u2018What on earth am I doing?\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  22. Change the structure of the first two sentences<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  23. Read my work and think to myself \u2018I got this, I know what I\u2019m doing!\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  24. Fix the mistake I made in the original reference<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  25. Read my work and think to myself \u2018I don\u2019t have a cooking clue what I\u2019m doing!\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  26. Type\u00a0the third sentence<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  27. Reference it<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  28. Check my blog and pluck my eyebrows \/or take a shower\/ or water the plants and drink some cold coffee<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  29. Start with Step 1 again<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  30. Repeat a gazillion times<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    I am sure that after the gazillionth time, hopefully about two years from now, I will be sitting with an
    \nabsolute \u201cbeaut\u201d and masterpiece.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

    As long as I keep this up, of course!<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

    On a slightly different note, Happy New Year everyone! May\u00a02016 be an auspicious one for you all. I will share that my new year started off well, as the minions and I accompanied the parentals on a tour of Robben Island this weekend. Long overdue for us. What a magnificent enriching experience! And the cherry on top was lunch with the rest of the \u201cFemilyum\u201d after the tour. Boy, it\u2019s great to have the minions back home! Happiness prevails.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
