And I started a blog post about that feeling and whether it meant I had made the wrong decision (which I don\u2019t think I did) by moving to industry. But then, I realized I had\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/inbabyattachmode.scientopia.org\/2014\/10\/22\/you-can-take-the-person-out-of-the-lab-but-it-takes-longer-to-take-the-disgruntledpostdoc-out-of-the-person\/#comments\" style=\"color:blue; text-decoration:underline\">written a post about this befor<\/a>e where I wondered \u201cif academia has brainwashed me into thinking that being successful in academia is the highest attainable goal in everyone\u2019s life.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 10pt\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:115%\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\">I think part of my jealousy is from the fact that for so many years I was working towards becoming a PI with my own line of research and now I have become something else. Other people have become that and I haven\u2019t (But I guess I shouldn\u2019t forget about all the aspects that I didn\u2019t like.).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 10pt\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:115%\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\">Another part of it is the lack of personal recognition. Or maybe I should phrase this differently and say, the amount of teamwork in industry. The nice aspect of this is that responsibilities are shared and so are rejections. It feels a lot less personal than before (and I vaguely remember having written a post about this before too, but I can\u2019t find it) which is both a good thing but also a bit disappointing at times. Often, I make slides for somebody else to present, for example, and my name (or anyone\u2019s name) won\u2019t be on there. To the company or the world outside the company, it seems to matter less exactly who did what. I wanted to end this post with the example that most people will know the names of those who made discoveries in academia but not those in industry. But, I found that this is not true.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kary_Mullis\" style=\"color:blue; text-decoration:underline\">The inventor of PCR worked at a biotech company<\/a>\u00a0at the time and\u00a0<span class=\"MsoHyperlink\" style=\"color:blue\"><span style=\"text-decoration:underline\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/science-environment-30632539\" style=\"color:blue; text-decoration:underline\">the inventor of Viagra got knighted by the queen of England<\/a><\/span><\/span>.
