RoRI seeks to provide insights on such significant matters as how funding decisions are made, how research can be optimized, and how the benefits of research can reach more people. Through this, the institute will help individuals, organizations, and governments across the globe make better-informed decisions on research and science policy.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; text-align: justify; margin: 0in 0in 8pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"line-height: 115%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">Wellcome Trust, University of Sheffield, University of Leiden\u2019s Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS), and Digital Science (a science- and research-focused technology company) are the founding partners of RoRI. As a key part of its efforts, the institute aims to bring together funders from across the world. So far, <span class=\"MsoHyperlink\" style=\"color: #0563c1;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #0563c1; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biospace.com\/article\/research-on-research-institute-rori-launches-to-enable-more-strategic-open-diverse-and-inclusive-research\/\">11 organizations from across the world have expressed their interest in partnering with the institute<\/a><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; text-align: justify; margin: 0in 0in 8pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"line-height: 115%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">James Wilsdon, Director of RoRI and Digital Science Professor of Research Policy at University of Sheffield, explains the need for an entity like RoRI: \u201c<a style=\"color: #0563c1; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sheffield.ac.uk\/news\/nr\/research-on-research-institute-launches-to-make-research-more-strategic-open-diverse-inclusive-1.866700\">Research on research isn\u2019t new; there is a wealth of excellent work to build on, but it can be poorly joined-up.<\/a>\u201d RoRI\u2019s goal therefore will be to better coordinate and connect research efforts among various stakeholders.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in 0in 8pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"line-height: 115%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri,sans-serif;\"><b><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">Translation<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">: Connect RoR capabilities to resources of internal and external strategic partners<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/researchonresearch.org\/research-funding-landscape\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">Research Funding Landscape<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\"> and <\/span><a style=\"color: #0563c1; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/researchonresearch.org\/health-research-funding-landscape\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">Health Research Funding Landscape<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\"> show how funds are presently distributed in research areas across the world. The tools allow users a closer look at specific research areas and the respective funders with a view to assessing gaps and opportunities.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; text-align: justify; margin: 0in 0in 8pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"line-height: 115%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">Apart from working on such tools, RoRI will also be spearheading programs, facilitating webinars, and authoring working papers, such as these ones on <span class=\"MsoHyperlink\" style=\"color: #0563c1;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #0563c1; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/figshare.com\/articles\/Supporting_priority_setting_in_science_using_research_funding_landscapes\/9917825\">supporting priority settings in science<\/a><\/span><\/span> and the <span class=\"MsoHyperlink\" style=\"color: #0563c1;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #0563c1; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/figshare.com\/articles\/21st_Century_PhDs_Why_we_need_better_methods_of_tracking_doctoral_access_experiences_and_outcomes\/9917813\">need for better methods of tracking PhD outcomes<\/a><\/span><\/span>. Founded on the principles of open science, all papers published through RoRI will be freely downloadable.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; text-align: justify; margin: 0in 0in 8pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"line-height: 115%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">The foundation of RoRI comes at a crucial juncture where the global research landscape is pressed with challenges such as diminishing funding, growing demands for open access, increasing calls for interdisciplinary research, and a greater thrust toward international collaboration.
