Topics considered by the journal include respiratory medicine, sleep, and critical care \u2018as well as those on basic and translational mechanisms with application to clinical material (e.g. cell and molecular biology, genetics, epidemiology, and immunology)\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color:#000080;\"><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">EDITORIAL POLICIES AND SUBMISSION GUIDELINES<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">All manuscripts must be uploaded through the ScholarOne manuscript submission system. New users are required to register themselves first.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/mc.manuscriptcentral.com\/thorax\">https:\/\/mc.manuscriptcentral.com\/thorax<\/a> to begin the process of submission.<em> Thorax<\/em> publishes articles in twelve categories (details and word counts for each are given as part of the guidelines for authors, available here):<br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/thorax.bmj.com\/site\/about\/guidelines.xhtml\">http:\/\/thorax.bmj.com\/site\/about\/guidelines.xhtml<\/a><\/span><br \/>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color:#000080;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">MANUSCRIPT REVIEW PROCESS<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">Contributions that pass preliminary screening are sent out for review. Each contribution is assigned to an editor who manages the peer review process, choosing appropriate reviewers from a database of experts. Some papers may be sent to specialist statistical reviewers. Many contributions are rejected even before peer review because of they are not sufficiently original, flawed scientifically, or do not offer substantial content important and relevant to the readers of the journal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color:#000080;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">GOOD PUBLISHING PRACTICES<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:14px;\"><em>Thorax<\/em> displays on its home page some statistics particularly helpful to potential contributors. For 2015, <em>Thorax<\/em> accepted only 8% of the submissions in the \u2018original research\u2019 category; rejected 54% of all submissions within 1\u20133 days based on preliminary screening; and arrived at a final decision (for the submissions that had cleared the preliminary screening) in 15 weeks. The articles that are read the most \u2013 based on the number of views for the full text of the articles and for the versions in pdf \u2013 are listed every month.
