While making the announcement for this Prize, the Nobel Committee said that Ishiguro \u201cin novels of great emotional force, has uncovered the abyss beneath our illusory sense of connection with the world.\u201d Ishiguro is well known for his works such as <em>The Remains of the Day<\/em>, <em>Never Let Me Go<\/em>, and <em>The Buried Giant<\/em>. He also won the Man Booker Prize in 1989.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ishiguro was chosen over other nominees such as Haruki Murakami and Margaret Atwood. He confessed to having been \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/books\/2017\/oct\/05\/kazuo-ishiguro-wins-the-nobel-prize-in-literature\">taken by surprise<\/a>\u201d and feeling honored. The Swedish academy <a href=\"https:\/\/qz.com\/1095189\/kazuo-ishiguro-wins-the-2017-nobel-prize-in-literature\/\">described<\/a> Ishiguro\u2019s work as: \u201cIf you mix Jane Austen and Kafka you have Kazuo Ishiguro\u2019s work. But you have to add a little bit of Marcel Proust into the mix, and then you stir, but not too much. He\u2019s a writer of great integrity.
