Despite being ordered to shut down, Sci-Hub continues to operate through various domains and is increasingly attracting more traffic. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"line-height: 115%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri,sans-serif;\">During the ACS lawsuit, the court ruled that search engines, hosting sites, internet providers, and domain name registries would have to discontinue providing access to Sci-Hub and its domains. As a result, several domains that Sci-Hub operated from were suspended. The site, however, continues to flourish according to the <a style=\"color: blue; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Sci_Hub\/status\/954095639859814402\">publication downloads data<\/a> from 2017 that Sci-Hub released. Between 2016 and 2017, the daily downloads on Sci-Hub increased from 200,000 per day to 600,000 per day. The <a style=\"color: blue; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/gedankenstuecke\/status\/954118973913640960\">top five countries that accessed the site<\/a> are China, India, the U.S., Brazil, and Iran. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"line-height: 115%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri,sans-serif;\">The site suffered a loss in terms of infrastructure earlier this month. Cloudflare \u2013 a company that provides cybersecurity and optimization services \u2013 was sent a legal notice by the ACS attorneys to terminate providing its services to Sci-Hub in keeping with the court order. Therefore, the company withdrew its infrastructural support to the site. This, however, did not seem to have a longstanding impact on Sci-Hub\u2019s operations as evidenced by their Tweet: \u201c<a style=\"color: blue; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Sci_Hub\/status\/959702088543539200\">That is not critical but may cause a short pause in website operation.<\/a>\u201d It is still unclear if Cloudflare\u2019s move will affect Sci-Hub\u2019s operations. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; margin: 0in 0in 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"line-height: 115%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri,sans-serif;\">Sci-Hub has faced suspension of domains before and has been able to continue operating through alternative domains.
