The very first Nobel Prizes were awarded in 1901 as per the will of Alfred Nobel, a Swedish inventor, and the annual international awards seem to have only grown in stature and prestige with each passing year. The prize ceremony is held annually in Stockholm, Sweden, with the exception of the Nobel Prize for Peace, which is awarded in a separate ceremony in Oslo, Norway. The recipients receive a diploma, a gold medal, and a prize amount. For this year, the Nobel Foundation has set the prize amount at SEK 9.0 million for each prize.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 2017 event kicks off on October 2 with the announcement of the winner of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. This will be followed by the Nobel Prize for Physics to be announced on October 3 and the one for Chemistry that will be announced on October 4. Also, the Prize in Economic Sciences will be announced on October 9. The popular predictions this year include <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.statnews.com\/2017\/09\/25\/nobel-prize-predictions\/\"><strong>Breakthroughs in immuno-oncology<\/strong><\/a><\/em> (Jim Allison) for medicine and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scientificamerican.com\/article\/predictions-for-the-2017-chemistry-nobel-prize\/\"><strong>CRISPR<\/strong><\/a><\/em> (Doudna, Charpentier, Zhang) for chemistry.
