The fossil is named <\/span><em style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Tetrapodophis amplectus<\/em><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">, which loosely translates as \u2018four-legged hugging snake,\u2019 and is being considered as a missing link between snakes and lizards. The\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">120-or-so-million-year-old fossil\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">was discovered in Crato Formation in northeastern Brazil several decades ago, but caught attention of the palaeontologists only a few years ago. They believe the creature\u2019s legs did not serve the purpose of locomotion, but were rather used for grasping prey or to hold on to mating partners.
