That\u2019s why there are several AI detection tools that journals and publishers use to determine whether the writing is AI-generated. But if humans were asked to the same, do you think they would be successful? Could they correctly differentiate between human-written and AI-generated texts?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In this video,\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">James\u00a0Sonne<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0(Anatomy &amp; Neurobiology, Ph.D. Integrated Biomedical Sciences)\u00a0explores\u00a0a research paper that analyzed\u00a0whether or not humans were able to detect AI output.\u00a0A study\u00a0found that AI was\u00a0theoretically\u00a0good at detecting AI output\u00a0as well as\u00a0original abstracts. But they found that humans were especially bad at detecting whether something was generated by AI.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Turns out, blinded\u00a0human reviewers falsely\u00a0identified\u00a014% of original abstracts as AI generated. Humans were only able to correctly\u00a0identify\u00a068% of AI-generated abstracts as AI generated.\u00a0So\u00a0our false positive rate was 14%.\u00a0Another\u00a0interesting\u00a0fact\u00a0that came from this research was that the AI-generated text scored\u00a0significantly\u00a0low on plagiarism detection.\u00a0The average rate for plagiarism detection among original abstracts was around 50%. And 50% of the abstracts were detected as having plagiarism within them, even though they did not intentionally plagiarize.
