The 45th London Book Fair: A platform for writers, publishers, and technology exhibitors

The London Book Fair (LBF), which is now in its 45th year, will take place from 12-14 April 2016. This large book-publishing trade fair conducted annually is described as “the global marketplace for rights negotiation and the sale and distribution of content across print, audio, TV, film and digital channels.” Considered second only to The Frankfurt Book Fair, what sets the LBF apart is the amalgamation of readers, writers, publishers, and even gamers who exchange ideas and explore new ways of delivering content. This annual event attracts 25,000 publishing professionals from over 124 countries.

The LBF event includes all sectors of the industry from academics and representatives of The International Association of Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishers (STM) to technology exhibitors. The academic community is a major representative in the event. In 2015, the Research & Scholarly Forum was launched in the LBF in collaboration with the Association of Learned & Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP) and The Publishers Association (PA). The main intent behind the creation of this forum is enabling communication among publishers all over world. According to the official website, in its second year, this forum will assist academics and publishers in examining “the challenges and trends facing research communication.” The speakers will discuss their views on the latest policies, publishing models, and technologies. Due to the outreach, the academics consider the LBF as a platform for networking and discussing opportunities.

Apart from this, the LBF hosts excellence awards and several seminars, the details for which can be found on their official website. To participate in the event, register now.
