Editage adds Altmetrics to Intelligent CV

Editage announces the integration of data from Altmetric LLP into Intelligent CV (ICV). ICV is the newest product from Editage that allows researchers to build and manage their publication record and professional profile online.

With the integration of Altmetric data into ICV, researchers can now show the most comprehensive and latest alternative metrics data related to their publications in their online profiles. This development marks a crucial step in the efforts of Editage to provide a unique platform for researchers to promote an up-to-date profile of their professional accomplishments for the benefit of potential research collaborators, funding agencies, and university administrators.

Donald Samulack, President, US Operations, Editage, commented, “Intelligent CV is designed to allow scientists to communicate to university administrators and to their peers in the research community the impact that their research has had. A CV that documents alternative metrics surrounding readership and the social conversation that their published papers have generated offers a much more compelling argument to a tenure committee of their research impact than a traditional publication list.”

Traditional measures of journal prestige surrounding citation metrics have been, until recently, the only measure of research quality. In recent years, alternative metrics such as page views and downloads have started to challenge journal citation measures as an indication of the relevance and quality of an individual research paper. Altmetric data captures a much broader array of alternative metrics related to the social conversation surrounding a research paper, and provides a complementary representation of how people are responding to the work. The integration of Altmetric data into ICV enables any author on the Editage Online System to keep a track of all forms of online activity surrounding their scholarly output.

Euan Adie, founder of Altmetric, added, “With the addition of the Altmetric data to ICV profiles, authors will have the opportunity to gain a much better understanding of who is talking about their work, and what they are saying. This in turn may lead to successful new collaborations, further outreach on the part of the researchers, and provides valuable evidence of broader engagement for use in funding applications or career development.”
