Q: Can a case report be published as an original research article if it includes a literature review?
Is it possible to publish a case report with a review of literature in the original research category?
A case report deals with actual cases. These are mostly published in psychology and medicine. A case report describes an actual patient case, what you did to treat it, and what were the reults. Of course, the cases presented are usually those that contribute significantly to the existing knowledge on the field.
However, an original research article is much more complex. It includes a hypothesis, background study, methods, results, interpretation of findings, and a discussion of possible implications. The approach is more general and involves developing a hypothesis and seeking evidence to prove it, rather than reporting what was done in one particular case. It is a very different kind of work. A case report with a literature review cannot be considered as an original research article.
You can maybe consider publishing the case report first and then build on the idea for a separate original research article.
