Bio
With a background in neuroscience and psychology, Katie is now a PhD student in the School of Health in Social Science at the University of Edinburgh. Using novel qualitative approaches, Katie’s research explores the experience of 'going out' from the perspective of people affected by dementia. Her work aims to inform search strategies for people with dementia who are reported missing and more widely, it aims to support people with dementia to live independently in a safe and supportive environment. Alongside her PhD research, Katie tutors at the university, is a founding member of the International Consortium for Dementia and Wayfinding, is a PhD representative for the Scottish Institute of Policing Research (SIPR) and is on the organising committee for the Global Law Enforcement and Public Health conference. Katie also keeps a blog to document her PhD journey. Outside of academia, Katie likes to stay active. She has recently taken up CrossFit (eek!) and at the weekends you can find her hiking around Scotland or exploring her local city of Edinburgh.
