Video: Some highlights of the 9th International Congress on Peer Review and Scientific Publication

The 9th International Congress on Peer Review and Scientific Publication was held in Chicago, IL from September 8-10, 2022, and was attended by key stakeholders in scholarly publishing.

The conversations revolved around the need for more systematic research on publication patterns, trends in publishing, and the efficacy of peer review. Training and mentoring, incentivizing peer review, and diversity, equity, and inclusion also emerged as major themes. Using AI and how technology can help manage publication workflows while maintaining the integrity of research was a frequent topic of discussion, as was the emergence of newer threats to publication ethics and research integrity, such as paper mills. 

Jayashree Rajagopalan (Senior Manager of Global Community Engagement at CACTUS), who was also a co-chair of the Peer Review Week committee had insightful conversations with Animesh Jain (Department of Community Medicine, Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore), Leslie Citrome (Clinical Professor of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at New York Medical College), Mario Malicki (Co-Editor-in-Chief of Research Integrity and Peer Review), and Patricia Baskin (Executive Editor at American Academy of Neurology) to get their views on research integrity—the theme for Peer Review Week 2022.
