Q: Awaiting EIC decision after major revision
Hi. I have submitted an article to a JCR-indexed journal in November and in March, following the request of the journal, I submitted a revised version that contained changes to the introduction and literature review. However, now in August the status of the manuscript has remained "Awaiting EIC decision" for more than a few days. I was wondering about the chances of the manuscript being accepted, the possible reasons for this situation and the length of the period which I have to wait for the decision of the EIC? Thanks
Thank you for your question. The peer review process does seem to be taking longer than usual. Many journals take months to complete peer review. However, due to the situation necessitated by COVID19, journal workflows and decision-making may be impacted to some extent. However, this can also mean that the Editor in Chief is deliberating over the final decision, which can sometimes be a good thing for you, because you may not wish a hasty decision over your manuscript.
Based on your question, it seems that the status changed in August to “Awaiting EIC Decision.” I would recommend waiting for another month. If the status still does not change, you can write to the journal asking for an update.
