Q: Does my manuscript have any chance of acceptance if it has been Under Review for a month?

Detailed Question -

I submitted my manuscript on June 20, after which the status changed to With Editor. On July 28, I asked about the progress and got an immediate reply. The status became Under Review on July 29. However, it has been Under Review since then, except that the date of Under Review was changed (on August 22). Two months have passed since submission, but it is still Under Review. Is there a good chance that the article could be accepted?

1 Answer to this question
Answer:

One month in the Under Review status is not a very long time, neither is two months since submission. The good thing is that your manuscript is progressing along, even if it has needed some following up on your side. As it has been over a month since the change to Under Review, you could write to the editor again asking about the progress. You could also ask them about the interim change of date (the reason for that); that will show to them how keenly you are following the progress of your manuscript.

One thing to add here though. Note that acceptance does not depend on how long your manuscript is Under Review. It depends on well-established factors like the novelty of the research and the quality of the writing or presentation. If you think your paper has these attributes, it should have a good chance. And in case it is rejected, you can of course make changes to it and submit to another journal.

As you may know too, a reviewing and editing service (such as ours) can help improve a manuscript in many ways, most notably to increase its chances of acceptance. For now, though, all the best for the next steps on the manuscript!
