Q: Can I publish my article as a commentary?

Detailed Question -

I have written a commentary article and submitted it to a journal. The manuscript consists of an abstract, a short introduction, two figures, two short paragraphs, and conclusion. Is this type of commentary suitable for journal publication?

1 Answer to this question
Answer:

Commentaries are usually very short articles, of around 1000-1500 words that draw attention to or present criticism on a previously published article, book, or report, often using the findings as a call to action or to highlight a few points of wider relevance to the field.

If your article is a critique of some other work,  a commentary will be prefect, and the outline you have shared will also be fine. In fact, commentary does not follow the IMRAD structure as it is based on ideas, opinions, and insights. As long as you present your ideas in a logical flow, you should feel free to structure your article as you like.

However, since you have mentioned figures, I am wondering whether you wish to present the findings of your original research in a condensed form. If that is the case, short communications will be a better choice than commentaries.
