Q: Is it acceptable to add or remove authors after a paper has been accepted for publication?

Detailed Question -

I want to ask if it is allowed to add or remove authors from the submission after the manuscript has been accepted.

1 Answer to this question
Answer:

Generally, journals will consider changes in authors during the revision process, but before the manuscript is accepted. This request must be accompanied with the following:

(a) a strong and satisfactory reason for the change in author list; and

(b) written confirmation from all authors that they agree with the change in author list.

In the case of addition or removal of authors, this includes confirmation from the author being added or removed. In rare cases, the journal editor may consider this request after acceptance. While the editor considers this request, publication will be delayed. If the editor agrees, and in case the manuscript has already been published online, it will result in a correction or corrigendum. It is therefore preferable to carefully review the author list and include appropriate authors who have significantly contributed to the article prior to submission. This will ensure no delays in publication.
