Q: Manuscript submission-Delay in journal response
I have submitted my manuscript to hybrid journal of Wiley publishers. It's been 5 days and my manuscript is under review. I was assigned manuscript ID after 3 days. Is it true that it is generally received within one day? Is this a technical issue or a green flag? Since we usually get email if manuscript is sent for peer review, when should I email them regarding update? Should I ask them that initial screening is done or not?
Answer: Dear Author, Sometimes an editor will review a manuscript before sending it out for peer review. Assignment of a manuscript ID means it has passed the first stage in the review process. Finding appropriate peer reviewers can also be time consuming and may further delay the process. It is best to check the journal specific guidelines or FAQs to see if they give a timeline. I would consider waiting till the manuscript has been under review for at least 2-3 weeks before following up with a polite email to the editor. Good luck!
