Peer Review Week (PRW) 2026 is almost here! And Editage is excited to invite you to participate in our thoughtfully curated week-long activities from 14 to 18 September, where we explore how to strengthen peer review capacity without compromising quality, trust, and integrity.
This year’s theme is “Peer Review Capacity: Volume, Speed, and Quality”
With the rising volume of manuscript submissions, both peer review ecosystems and peer reviewers are experiencing significant stress. Hence, the scientific community has decided to address one key problem: What can we collectivity do to scale peer review as a well-oiled system while ensuring quality, trust, and fairness?
Some questions likely to shape the conversation:
- How can peer review systems handle the rising submission volumes without compromising quality?
- What approaches can help balance speed with rigor in editorial decision-making?
- How can reviewers be better supported and recognized in an environment of growing demand?
- What role can technology realistically play in expanding capacity?
- How do capacity challenges differ across regions, disciplines, and publishing models?
Roohi Ghosh, Ambassador for Researcher Success, Cactus Communications and Co-Chair of the PRW Committee 2026, said “The peer review system we navigate today is an inherited one, but this generation has the opportunity to build the system it needs. The future of peer review isn’t about choosing between volume, speed, and quality; it’s about redesigning the system so we no longer have to. I hope that in ten years, we’ll look back at today’s bottlenecks not as unavoidable realities, but as problems we chose to solve.”
