Q: The status of ScholarOne has always been “ADM: WOA, Admin Evaluating Recommendation”

Detailed Question -

I submitted a paper to a Wiley journal on May 13, 2021. The status of the previous month has always been "ADM: WOA, Admin, under review". By around June 6, the status changed to "ADM: WOA, Admin, Evaluating Recommendation" and continues to the present. What is the state of my paper? Hasn't it reached the editor or editor-in-chief? Thanks!

Answer:

Thank you for your question- it is not easy waiting to hear about a submitted manuscript! The status "Under review" is ambiguous- it could be an internal review or a peer-review. However, "Evaluating recommendation" is usually the status when the manuscript has been peer-reviewed and the reviewer comments are being evaluated by the journal administration to determine whether the article should be accepted (with or without changes) or rejected.

Extrapolating from that, we predict that the previous status "Under review" probably refers to the peer-review step. If this is the case, the evaluation should be completed soon and the journal will communicate their decision to you. We would recommend waiting a week or two and if there is no change in status, you can write to the journal editorial office asking them for a status update.
