Q: What does a status change from "under review" to "under editor evaluation" and back to "under review" mean?

Detailed Question -

I have submitted my paper to a Q2 journal of Elsevier and the status changes are as follows:

Submitted: 16 May 2018; Under Review: 19 May 2018; Under Editorial Evaluation: 03 June 2018; and very next day (after 12 hours) changed again to "Under Review": 04 June 2018. I am a little bit worried what could be the reason for this. Your kind comments are required for this situation.

Answer:

The status changes from "Under review" to "Under evaluation" once all the reviews come in. However, since the status has changed back from “Under editorial evaluation” to “Under review” once again, it is possible that the editor has sent the manuscript back to the reviewers for some query or has sent it to another reviewer for an additional review. The status “Under Review” is an indication that the manuscript is still undergoing peer review. You can send a follow up email to the journal to have a clear picture of the progress.
