Q: What is an academic portfolio?
An academic portfolio is a collection of documents that illustrate what a scientist/researcher has accomplished in terms of research, teaching, and service. It should be carefully drafted, organized, and should be selective. Maintaining a digital folder with sub-folders of supporting documentation is preferred for easy access. The three major areas of academic work that will need to be addressed in an academic portfolio include:
1)Teaching and/or educational development
2)Scholarship and research
3)Service activities (contributions to the university and to the area of study).
An academic portfolio is basically a summary of the major activities and accomplishments, documenting the nature and extent of the contributions as well as the researcher’s/scientist’s role and achievements.
