Q: Can you suggest the broad problem area and problem statement for my dissertation project?
My topic is ‘Opportunity lead[s] to fraud and the need of ethical judgement to be implemented in accounting at all times.’
The framing of your topic isn’t very clear. Also, it seems to cover two broad angles, how opportunity or opportunism leads to fraud and the need to exercise ethical judgment in accounting at all times. For these reasons, it would be difficult to make concrete suggestions. All the same, you probably need to explore the following areas of the problem: the role of opportunity (or perhaps more correctly, opportunism) in fraud, how this can impact organizational and public faith in corporate financial statements, and therefore the need for all entities involved to be ethical at all times.
The problem statement is a concise expression of the problem you are seeking to study. A problem statement can be quite detailed and typically discusses three aspects of the problem: the existing state, the ideal state, and the proposed solution (that you are exploring in your study).
